Our goal is to make your first visit to Florida Oncology Associates easy and hassle free by providing you with the information below on what to expect the day of your appointment.
What to expect on your first visit
It is necessary to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment. Be prepared to stay for up to 1.5 hours depending on your appointment type since there are many tasks that need to be taken care of before and after you see your doctor. After you check in with the receptionist, you will be seen by some of our staff members before you are examined by the doctor, which may include a Medical Assistant (MA), Nurse Practitioner, and a Laboratory or Pharmacy Technician.
Once you have checked in with the front desk, a medical assistant will ask you to come to his or her area. For safety reasons, the MA will ask that only the patient come at this time. Your temperature, blood pressure and weight will be recorded and at this time, a laboratory technician may draw your blood for examination. During your initial history-taking and physical, only one family member or friend may be present in the room with you. Other loved ones may join you when our doctor is ready to review your information and recommend a course of treatment.
At the end of your visit, you will check out with a receptionist to ensure that you have all the appointments, prescriptions and tests ordered by the physician. We realize how frightening a diagnosis of any kind can be and with this in mind, please do not hesitate to contact us at any point with questions or concerns. Remember, at Florida Oncology Associates your care is our mission and your recover is our goal.
Laboratory
For your convenience, many of our practices have an on-site laboratory which enables us to do routine blood work and allows us to have the results of most tests during your scheduled visit. Upon review of the results, if your physician feels that additional lab work is required to further assist with the diagnosis or treatment then we may have to refer you to an outside laboratory for specialized testing.
Pharmacy
For your convenience, many of our practices have an on-site pharmacy which enables us to fill your prescriptions before you leave the office or within 24 hours of your appointment. For prescription refills or questions regarding your pharmacy insurance, please call (904) 519-2720 to speak to a pharmacy representative.
Insurance
At Florida Oncology Associates, we welcome new patients and accept most insurance plans. Any copayments, co-insurances, and/or deductibles are due at the time of your appointment unless otherwise noted by a financial counselor. We understand that insurance and billing can be a complicated matter and therefore offer assistance to you at every step of the way. Please call your individual practice location or (904) 363-2113 for more information on insurance plans accepted.
